from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carthusian monastery Le Thoronet (also: Notre-Dame du Torrent de Vie ) has been a monastery of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem, the Assumption of Mary and Saint Bruno in Le Thoronet , Var department , Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon in France since 1978 .

history

Bishop Gilles Barthe of Fréjus-Toulon called sisters of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem to his diocese in 1978 and settled them a few hundred meters away from the former Cistercian abbey of Abbaye du Thoronet . The sisters, who initially lived in makeshift accommodation, called their monastery Notre-Dame du Torrent de Vie , in German: Our Lady of the Source of Life (or: Stream of Life, Stream of Life; torrent = torrent; echoing Thoronet). Today the sisters live in individual houses , like the Carthusian monks . The church, which is partially accessible to visitors, was completed in 2007.

In 1982 another convent of the Sisters of Bethlehem settled the Charterhouse of La Verne, also in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon. This monastery is called Monastère Notre-Dame de Clémence .
