Karu Jayasuriya (* 29. September 1940 ) is a politician from Sri Lanka and former Minister of the Interior and Public Administration of his country. He was also vice chairman of the opposition United National Party .

He was elected mayor of Colombo in 1997. After his efficient leadership of the most populous city in the country, the party made him a candidate for the office of Prime Minister of the Western Province. He refused to put up posters because, according to Jayasuriya, they promote violence and pollution in the city. He said he worked hard to keep the city clean. Due to the United National Party's victory in the 2001 general election , he became the country's energy minister.

With the dissolution of parliament by Chandrika Kumaratunga in April 2004 and the defeat of the United National Party in the 2004 election , he returned to the parliamentary opposition. In the presidential election in 2005 , when Wickremesinghe, the candidate of the party was, was Jayasuriya candidate of the party for the post of prime minister. There was a power struggle between the two politicians. Jayasuriya lost this and moved with 18 other parliamentarians to the government side.

In September 2015 Jayarusiya was elected Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
