The Kazakh National Agrarian University ( Kazakh Қазақ ұлттық аграрлық университеті ; Russian Казахский национальный аграрныy университеті ) is an agricultural university in the Kazakh Almaty .

history

Today's university came into being through the merger of two universities. The Alma-Ata Veterinary Institute was founded on October 1, 1929 by a decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR. It was the first agricultural university in what is now Kazakhstan and the second university ever established in the Kazakh ASSR .

The Kazakh Agricultural Institute was established in 1930. It comprised two faculties. Oras Schandossow became the first rector of the institution . A total of 78 people, including 20 Kazakhs, graduated from the first year in 1933. In 1971 the institute was awarded the Order of the Red Labor Banner .

In 1996, through the merger of the Veterinary Institute and the Kazakh Agricultural Institute, the Kazakh State Agricultural University was established. Kenscheghali Saghadijew was appointed the first rector . On July 5, 2001, the university was raised to the status of a national university and has since been called the Kazakh National Agricultural University .
