The Altonaer Holzhafen is a harbor basin in Hamburg-Altona-Altstadt on Große Elbstraße , which was built between 1722 and 1724 for small ships. It was originally supposed to ensure the supply of Altona with food (especially fish and grain) and building materials. The quay fortification was made with wood and the name of the harbor basin is derived from this. It is considered to be the oldest preserved harbor basin in Hamburg.

Later (around the second half of the 19th century) the Holzhafen also received a pier for ferry operations. This ferry service was maintained until the 1970s.

Originally there was a single luffing crane at the harbor basin for loading and unloading the ships. This luffing crane was not preserved. As a representative, two identical cranes were brought from their original location on Lübeck Ufer to the Altonaer Holzhafen in 1989. The two cranes are to be refurbished with the help of donations.
