Katarowank ( Armenian Կատարովանք , after the English transcription also Katarovank ) is a former monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church , which is de facto located in the Hadrut Province in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic .

history

According to Faustus of Byzantium , a historian of the 5th century, Katarowank was a large monastery founded before 335 on the top of Mount Disapajt. Today only one building remains, a chapel from the 17th century, just below the summit of Disapajt at about 2,480 m above sea level. The chapel was renovated in the mid-2010s.
