The Katharinenkirche ( Polish : Kosciół św. Katarzyny ) is a secular church building (monastery church of the Dominican Sisters , later an old Lutheran parish church) in Wroclaw in Poland .

The Dominican convent in Breslau was founded around 1295. A document dated 14 June 1302 leads to the conclusion that there is a foundation of the Duke Henry V was. In the following years the monastery was endowed with rich donations. The Katharinenkirche was built as a double church with two naves one above the other. Its construction began before 1314.

During the Reformation , the Wroclaw Dominicans resisted the abolition of their monastery. In a letter from 1527, the prioress complained to Duke Karl von Münsterberg about the popular anger directed against the convent. In the following decades the monastery lost many of its privileges and guaranteed payments due to the Reformation. B. from inheritance. The monastery buildings became dilapidated, so the church tower had to be removed.

On October 30, 1810, the Katharinenkloster was abolished in the course of secularization and the monastery church was turned into a hay store. The old Lutherans under the direction of Johann Gottfried Scheibel finally acquired the monastery church and consecrated it on October 8th as an Evangelical Lutheran parish church. The church remained in this function until it was destroyed in World War II .

In the years 1975 to 1980 the church was rebuilt in its outer form into a residential building and several false ceilings were inserted inside.
