Catholic Day Village

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Katholikentagsdorf is a settlement in Harpen , Bochum . For the basic stock, 900 helpers asked for a donation in the amount of an hourly wage (at that time around 1.60 marks ) from the participants of the German Catholic Day in Bochum in 1949 . The Catholic Church praised the social project.

The actual costs turned out to be significantly higher than planned. The donation was only converted by the initiators into a foundation for interest-free loans. The settlement community on Schleipweg built 31 houses by 1951, and a few years later 76 houses for 144 families. Today there are 83 houses in the settlement. The fund for building new homes still exists today and is occasionally used.
