The Catholic Catechism of the Dioceses of Germany , also known as the Small Catechism or popularly known as the Green Catechism because of its binding , was published by the German Bishops' Conference and created by Franz Schreibmayr and Klemens Tilmann. It was intended for children between the ages of ten and thirteen. The catechism was first published in 1955 as a licensed edition by Verlag Herder and was 288 pages long. It conveyed the teaching content of the Roman Catholic Church in question and answer form and was provided with explanatory texts and pictures. The catechism was translated into 30 languages ​​and was distributed worldwide. In 2011 the youth catechism Youcat was published , which has also been translated into 30 languages.

The catechism is divided into four main parts: On God and our salvation , On the Church and the sacraments , On living according to the commandments of God and On the last things . There is also an appendix with prayers.

The catechism explains, among other things, the original sin in which every human being has participated since the "sin of Adam". The main or root sins are explained because numerous other sins arise from them: pride, greed, unchastity, envy, excessive eating and drinking, anger, indolence.
