Youcat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

YOUCAT is the 2011 published Youth - Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church . The work, written in question-and-answer form, is used in Catholic youth work worldwide and has appeared in over 30 languages.

A major reason for the rapid worldwide reception of the work was the foreword by Pope Benedict XVI. which sparked an international learning movement among young Catholics that continues to this day. There he writes: “You must know what you believe. You must know your faith as precisely as an IT specialist knows the operating system of a computer. You must understand him as a good musician understands his piece. Yes, you must be deeply rooted in the faith than the generation of your parents in order to be able to face the challenges and temptations of this time with strength and determination. "

The YOUCAT is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992) and the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (2005). The German edition has 304 pages and consists of four chapters with 527 questions and answers. At the 2011 World Youth Day , 700,000 copies of YOUCAT were distributed in 13 languages on behalf of the Pope.

Due to its accessible language, its worldwide availability and its youth-friendly design, YOUCAT has established itself as one of the most successful media of the new evangelization worldwide, which was expressly appreciated by the Synod of Bishops for the new evangelization (Prop. 51).

The German first edition was published on March 25, 2011 by Pattloch Verlag in Munich . In 2014 the project was taken over by the YOUCAT Foundation gGmbH. The International Pontifical Aid Church in Need is the sole shareholder of the YOUCAT Foundation . YOUCAT® is an internationally protected word and figurative mark.
