The Katlenburger Kellerei ( spelling : KATLENBURGER Kellerei ) is a family business from Katlenburg in southern Lower Saxony that has existed since 1925 . The winery produces fruit wines, honey wines and mixed fruit wine drinks.

history

Foundation and war years

In 1925, Willy Demuth founded a fruit juice company in Katlenburg in southern Lower Saxony, which used the fruits from the family's own orchards. Since the apple juices often ferment during storage , Demuth began a rapidly growing range of wines and sparkling wines made from fruit.

Foaming strawberry wine was another innovation in 1927. For almost forty years, "Strawberry Sekt" was exclusively a Katlenburg product. The designation "sparkling wine" has now been banned for fruit sparkling wines, but it has also found many fans as strawberry sparkling wine.

At the suggestion of Demuth's wife - a young doctor - the company produced Catlenburger Closter drink from hawthorn berries , the medical effect of which was proven as early as 1940 and which was also used by the hospitals. This meant that the company was able to continue operating during the Nazi era .

modernization

In the mid-1960s, there was a first generation change: Günter Demuth took over his father's company and both began to modernize the company, which led to larger filling capacities. The systems were now technically controlled and monitored. Lighter wines with less alcohol were produced. With the modernization of production, a new field of products opened up; So the company began with the bottling of cocktails that he produced from his own fruit wines.

After the turn

With the political change in Europe and the reunification of Germany , a larger market opened up again for Katlenburger, and sales of products doubled.

Founder Willy Demuth died in 1984. In 1992 his grandson Klaus Demuth joined the family business as a representative of the third generation. The operation was again brought up to date technically. The »wine cellar« was considerably expanded and renovated so that the production of fruit wines could keep pace with the new filling capacities. Mechanical filling machines have been replaced by high-performance electronic systems; almost 200,000 bottles can roll off the line every day.

The Katlenburger Kellerei has now expanded its activities to the global market. Even in the 21st century, work continued on the products and product presentation. This is how products like "Cool Up" and "Tropica" cocktails, but also wellness drinks like "youwell" and other fruit wine cocktails under the Katlenburger brand were created.

Since summer 2010, the products can not only be purchased in the supermarket but also in the Katlenburger shop. It is located in the rooms of the completely renovated head office of the Demuth family in Katlenburg on Herzberger Straße. In addition to the Katlenburger range, vouchers, glasses and gift sets can also be purchased.

Products

In addition to fruit wines and mixed fruit wine drinks, the company also offers classic mulled fruit wines and bowls as well as fruit wine cocktails .

For more than 50 years, the DLG (German Agricultural Society) has given the Katlenburger Kellerei products top marks. Nine times in a row it received the highest quality award in the industry, the Federal Honor Award - several times gold - awarded by the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture .
