Katsuhiko Umehara

Katsuhiko Umehara ( Japanese 梅 原 克 彦 , Umehara Katsuhiko ; born March 29, 1954 in Sendai ) is a Japanese politician and was mayor of Sendai from 2005 to 2009 .

Umehara studied at Tokyo University and graduated from its law faculty in 1978. He then worked in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as in the private sector. For professional reasons, he spent several years in Thailand and the United States , which is why Umehara speaks fluent English .

In 2005 he was elected mayor of his native Sendai. In 2009 he did not run for a second term.

In addition to swimming and his interest in archaeological ruins, he practices judo as a hobby and is a black belt holder.
