The KAL-1 (KAL ワ ン) was a single-engine, four-seat travel and liaison aircraft produced by the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki .

History and construction

After the aviation ban was lifted, Orient Aviation Industry was founded in 1952 by former Tachikawa and Kawanishi employees . The company was geared towards testing, research and developments in aircraft construction. After Kawasaki wanted to revive its aviation division, Orient Aviation was commissioned to work on the prototype of the KAL-1. The aircraft was a single-engine low-wing aircraft with a retractable tail wheel landing gear and was completely clad in metal. Only 2 machines were built, one of which was sold to the Japanese Army in 1954 and used there as a liaison aircraft until 1964. The second aircraft remained with Kawasaki itself as a company aircraft.
