Kebnekaise fjällstation

The Kebnekaise mountain lodge is a mountain cabin in northern Sweden . It is located at an altitude of 690 meters at the foot of the Kebnekaise and is operated by Svenska Turistföreningen (STF).

History of the mountain station

A first building, the Stenhyddan, was erected in 1907. The Stenhyddan had 18 beds in two rooms and was modeled on the hiking huts in the Alps . Over the years there have been a total of five extensions to the mountain station, the last one in 1991.

Today's station

Today's Fjällstation (2016) has 220 beds in six buildings. The service includes a restaurant, its own bakery and a sauna. The Fjällstation is open and managed from mid-February to mid-May and from mid-June to mid-September. Outside of this time, a shelter is open for emergencies.

Hiking trails

The cabin can be reached via a 19 km hiking trail from Nikkaluokta. The distance to the at Kungsleden located Wanderhütte Singi is 14 km and the Wanderhütte in Tarfala 8 km, the path of Nikkaluokta via Kebnekaise to Singi is often used also as a feeder for Kungsleden order of Singi from the Kungsleden according Abisko or Vakkotavare to hike.

Summit tour

The Fjällstation is the main starting point of the Kebnekaise, which with 2117 möh. the highest mountain in Sweden and Eurasia north of the Arctic Circle. The hike on the normal route is 20 km long (total distance there and back) and overcomes a difference in altitude of approx. 1800 m (outward 1600 m ascent and 200 m descent, vice versa way back ). In summer, the tour can be walked without glacier contact, but individual snow fields can remain until August. It is possible to book guided tours to the summit in the Fjällstation.
