Keele (Toronto Subway)

Keele is an above-ground subway station in Toronto . It is on the Bloor-Danforth Line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Bloor Street and Keele Street. The station has side platforms and is used by an average of 15,240 passengers every day (2015).

There are transfer options to three bus routes, and there is also a park-and-ride with 221 parking spaces for commuters . Immediately west of Keele Street, the route goes from a tunnel under a hill to an embankment and thus reaches the elevated, completely enclosed station. The dam crosses Keele Street and the parallel Indian Grove street. Immediately to the east of the station, the route crosses the parking lots below on a bridge. It then runs at ground level until just before Dundas West .

The station opened on February 26, 1966, along with the Keele - Woodbine section . For a little over two years, Keele was the western terminus. Most of the trams along Bloor Street were shut down, but initially there was a short branch line to near the station. A purpose-built turning loop was two blocks east of the main entrance at Indian Grove. To facilitate access, the Toronto Transit Commission had a short connecting tunnel built, which even had a moving walkway . Despite the great effort, this access did not last long. With the opening of the subway extension to Islington on May 11, 1968, the tram service on Bloor Street finally ended and the short tunnel was bricked up.
