Kefar Darom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kefar Darom ( Hebrew כפר דרום"Village of the South") was a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip .

Up to August 2005 there were around 60 families or almost 500 people living in Kfar Darom. The place was isolated a few kilometers northeast of the Gush Katif settlement block and was therefore repeatedly the target of Palestinian attacks.

Seven people were killed and 40 injured in a suicide attack on a bus on April 9, 1995.

An Israeli was killed and two others injured in a grenade attack on November 24, 2001.

As part of Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip , Kfar Darom was evacuated by the Israeli army and police on August 18, 2005, with considerable resistance from the settlers who were last holed up in the synagogue .
