In the international computer game scene

The term comes from the well-known online role-playing game World of Warcraft and has been in use there since around 2004. The term is given in the chat of the game if you enter " LOL " as a Horde member and read the message as an Alliance member (direct communication between the two sides is made more difficult by automatic text replacement). The term spread very quickly in the computer game scene.

In the German hip-hop scene

Some German rappers started using the term in their own songs in 2002 - albeit with a negative connotation . It is a derogatory term for fellow human beings. The context of the lyrics shows that Kek usually means a “ loser ” or a “ wannabe ”. Bushido or Fler are among the broadeners of this semantic of the word . Furthermore, the word kek comes from Turkish slang, it means " cake ". Some Turkish rappers use the word kek very often in their passages.
