Ken-Marti Vaher (born September 5, 1974 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian politician.

Life and politics

Ken-Marti Vaher graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1992. He studied law at the University of Tartu from 1992 to 1996 . Early on he devoted himself to politics. In 1995 he became an adviser to the Constitutional Committee of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). From 1998 he was a consultant at the Estonian Court of Auditors, whose director he became a year later.

In 2001 Vaher became a member of the newly founded party Res Publica . In the same year he was appointed general secretary of the party and in 2002 he was elected deputy chairman of Res Publica. In 2002/2003 Vaher was a member of Tallinn City Council . In 2003 he was elected as a member of the Estonian Parliament.

From April 2003 to March 2005, Vaher was Minister of Justice of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Juhan Parts .

On March 21, 2005, the Estonian parliament expressed its distrust. The background to this was Vaher's anti-corruption plan, which provided for a fixed minimum number of public officials who should be convicted by the Estonian law enforcement authorities. His government fell apart three days later because of Parts' support for Vaher's plan.

From March 2005 Ken-Marti Vaher was again a member of the Estonian Parliament. He was a member of the legal committee. From April 2011 to March 2014 he was Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Estonia.

Private life

Ken-Marti Vaher has been married to the administrative clerk Kairi Teniste since 2005.
