Kentucky State University

The Kentucky State University (also KSU or KYSU is called) is a state university in Frankfort in the US state of Kentucky . There are currently 18,391 students enrolled, about half of whom are African American .

history

The college was founded in 1886 as a pure African American university ( State Normal School for Colored Persons ) and is one of the Historic African American Colleges and Universities . In 1938 it was renamed Kentucky State College for Negroes . The desegregation took place in 1954, it has called itself only Kentucky State College since then . The university received university status in 1972.

Colleges

The university consists of three colleges:

  • Art, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies
  • Math, science, technology and health
  • Professional studies

Sports

The KSU sports teams are the Thorobreds . The university is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference .
