The Kerkje van Ellesdiek

The Kerkje van Ellesdiek is a Protestant parish church in the Ellewoutsdijk part of the municipality of Borsele in the Dutch province of Zeeland .

history

The predecessor of today's church in Ellewoutsdijk was a Gothic building that was consecrated to St. Martin until the Reformation. The nave and tower were from the 15th century. The choir was no longer needed in Calvinist worship. An illustration from the 18th century shows the triumphal arch walled up and parts of the choir walls still standing upright. In 1824 the upper floor of the tower was torn down and a new hood was put on it. In 1944 the church was destroyed by acts of war.

The old church was replaced in 1950/51 by a simple hall building with a western tower in front. The parish joined forces with the reformed Driewegen parish in 2001 due to a decline in membership. Today the community belongs to the Protestantse Kerk in Nederland , which was created in 2004 .
