The term core renovation encompasses all structural renovation measures in order to completely restore the structural fabric of an existing building and bring it to an (almost) new condition. For this purpose, the building is being dismantled down to the load-bearing structures such as foundations, load-bearing walls and ceilings. If necessary, these must also be repaired. The core renovation is not to be equated with the gutting of a building. With this measure, the entire structure with the exception of the facade will be removed and completely rebuilt.

The components of a core renovation can include the renewal of the roof structure including the roofing as well as the facade with windows and doors. In addition, the building services , i.e. electrical, water and heating installations, are being renewed inside .
