Kerry Argent

Kerry Argent (* 1960 in Angaston , South Australia ) is an Australian author and illustrator of children's books .

Life

In 1978/79 she first studied "Commercial Art" before switching to design. In 1982, Argent designed a counting book for children as a thesis for her Bachelor's degree in design. One Wooly Wombat was published by Omnibus-Verlag and was the beginning of a career as an illustrator of children's books. Their often humorous images often depict animals and are usually kept in soft colors. For the painting technique, Argent uses colored pencils and watercolors, and more rarely also ink.

Many of the books she illustrates are considered classics among Australian children's books. The book Sebastian Lives in a Hat won the 1985 Whitley Award. Too Loud Lily was named Book of the Year by the Children's Book Council of Australia in 2003 and was nominated for the Queensland Literature Prize in the Children's Books category. One of her most famous works is the illustration of Mem Fox's Christmas story Wombat Divine . Argent also works frequently with the author Margaret Wild .
