Building chain rescue

The chain Rescue is one of the oldest method of technical assistance to the rescue and recovery of people in accidents on the road or by rail. Even in the early days of technical accident rescue with hydraulic rescue equipment , people who were trapped were freed using chains. However, with the ever more powerful rescue equipment, this became less important.

The Swedish firefighter Jimmy Säftstromm developed a new chain rescue method at the turn of the millennium . New slings and attachment points gave chain rescue services a time advantage over the use of hydraulic cylinders . Tests by the Swedish Civil Contigencies Agency showed that the chain rescue was more than 15% faster than the hydraulic method: it has fewer disadvantages and risks. There is more space, especially in the area of the driver's seat. This was found to be more pleasant for the rescue service and more helpful when several people are to be freed from the vehicle. The hydraulic method clearly had problems here.

Chain rescue made a comeback with Jimmy Säftstromm Heavy Rescue Training Sweden. Fire departments around the world are already using chain rescues again.
