Automotive service technician

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The motor vehicle service technician is a further education of the trained motor vehicle mechatronics technician , whose completed training is the prerequisite for the service technician. It is regarded as an intermediate level to the master motor vehicle technician (formerly master motor vehicle master ). For example, since January 2001, a vehicle service technician no longer has to take part one of the master craftsman's examination (specialist practice) when training to become a master.

For the completion of the master’s degree, the examination parts, two (subject theory), four (training of trainers, AdA certificate) and part three, which includes the subjects of accounting, law and business administration, must still be carried out. The profession of vehicle service technician has been officially recognized by the state since July 1, 1998 due to a public examination regulation. The further training takes place through offers of the Chamber of Crafts or partly also manufacturer's own courses for motor vehicle mechatronic technicians for further training to motor vehicle service technicians, since the job descriptions can differ according to the specifications of the manufacturer. The origin of the training to become a vehicle service technician is even based on the basis of individual vehicle manufacturers who initially saw internal requirements for contract fulfillment through appropriate training in their inter-company training courses due to their training specifications. In the first few years, the examination was therefore not taken in front of an examination board of the Chamber of Crafts, which is now necessary for this.

The main areas of work of the service technician are:

  • Maintenance of motor vehicles
  • Diagnosis of technical problems in discussions with customers
  • Discuss the maintenance and repair measures with the customer
  • Support of the training master in the training of trainees
  • Functions in internal communication
  • Securing service readiness and quality of work

The main training topics are:

  • Service communication and service quality
  • On-board network, lighting, charging current and starting systems
  • Engine management and drive systems
  • Vehicle security, convenience, information, control and anti-theft systems
  • More intensive training in the areas of electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, digital technology, comfort and safety electronics, diagnostics.

The remuneration of a service technician is increased by 5 to 8 percent in comparison to the mechatronics technician, depending on the state and tariff. A higher fee can also be agreed in individual contracts. The preparation for the final exam is 320 lessons.
