The Khunjerab National Park is located in the southwestern part of the Gilgit-Baltistan Province in Pakistan and was founded in 1975 by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the advice of the naturalist George Schaller . The total area covers 2270 km², making it one of the largest national parks in the country. In the south it borders on the Central Karakoram National Park , in the north on the 14,000 km² Taxkorgan Reserve in China.
The park was established primarily to protect the rare Marco Polo Argalis . It is also home to snow leopards, wolves, brown bears, Siberian ibex and blue sheep.
