The Central Karakoram National Park is located in the Karakoram Mountains in the Gilgit-Baltistan Province in Pakistan . It extends within the province over the districts Skardu , Gilgit and Ghanche on a total area of 10,000 km². This makes it the largest national park in the country. The park was established in 1993. The national park is characterized by a high concentration of extremely high peaks. It has a total of sixty 7000er peaks and four of the 14 eight-thousanders . The highest point of the national park is K2 , which is also the second highest mountain on earth. In the northwest the national park borders on the Khunjerab National Park .
Vegetation and wildlife
Large parts of the park area are characterized by alpine mats and rocks, they are glaciated or they lie above the vegetation zone. Woods are represented by dry mountain needle and mountain deciduous forests, subalpine and northern dry bush formations.
The fauna of large animals includes screw goats , Asian ibex , Ladakh urials , musk deer , snow leopards , brown bears , wolves , red foxes and northern lynxes . Worth mentioning among the birds are booted eagles and king fowl .

There are about 350 settlements in the national park, which are inhabited by a total of about 211,000 people.
