Ki no Haseo
Ki no Haseo ( Japanese 紀 長 谷 雄 ; * 845 ; † March 1, 912 ) was a Japanese poet, scholar and politician.
Ki no Haseo was first a student of Ōkura no Yoshiyuki and then of Sugawara no Michizane , who recognized him - besides himself - as the only poet who was on the true path of poetry. He was an excellent connoisseur of Kanbun and Kanshi . As a writer of Chinese-language poetry, he was equated with Bai Juyi . However, only a few of his poetic works have survived in the Honchō monzui and Fusō-shū collections and fragments of his own Kika-shū collection .
Ki no Haseo was head ( 図 書 頭 , Zusho-no-kami ) of Zushoryō ( 図 書 寮 ) and a confidante of Tennō Uda . As such, he rose steadily, even after his abdication, until he was named Chūnagon in 911 . In this capacity, he was a teaching advisor to the Daigo Tennōs and was involved in drafting the Engishiki collection of laws .
