Kiambu is the capital of Kiambu County in Kenya . The city is located near Nairobi and is part of its metropolitan area. Kiambu has a population of 147,870 (2019 census) and is experiencing rapid population growth. The city is surrounded by rolling Kikuyu farmland. Kiambu is seen as the future anchor for the urban development of the capital Nairobi, which offers little room for growth and as more and more people are settling in the neighboring cities.

The city of Kiambu is a preferred location for real estate project development due to its advantageous location.

Opened in 1916, the Kiambu Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Kenya. The club also has other facilities such as tennis courts and swimming pools. The main lounge of the club is built in honor of Kenya's first first lady, also an honorary member of the club, Mama Ngina Kenyatta .
