Kiambu County is a county in Kenya . In Kiambu County in 2019 2,417,735 people lived on 2,449.2 km². The capital is Kiambu . Kiambu borders 5 other counties; Nakuru and Kajiado in the west, Murang'a and Nyandarua in the north and Nairobi in the south. The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Nairobi and is experiencing rapid population growth due to its convenient location.

Kiambu County consists of five divisions, Githunguri, Kiambaa, Kikuyu, Lari, and Limuru.

climate

Kiambu has a mild climate with temperatures between 12 ° C and 18.7 ° C. The amount of precipitation is 1000 mm per year. The moderate climate promotes agriculture. June and July are considered the coldest months, while January through March and September through October are the warmest months.

population

The majority of the people living in Kiambu County are Kikuyus. Other communities living in the county include Luo , Luhya , Maasai , Kamba , Meru , Kalenjin, and others. There are minorities of Europeans and Indians who play an important economic role. The majority religion is Christianity . A small minority belong to other faiths, including Islam and Hinduism .

In 2014 the fertility rate was 2.7 children per woman. The literacy rate was 95.8% for women and 98.2% for men between the ages of 15 and 49.

economy

Due to its proximity to Nairobi and its central location, Kiambu is one of the wealthiest counties in the country. There are many industries in Kiambu County that specialize in agricultural products, natural resources, and services. Although the majority of the population are small farmers who grow tea and coffee, there are several large coffee and tea farms. The real estate market is on the upswing with several large projects under development since the area was better developed through the expansion of the Thika motorway .

In 2017, the GDP per capita was 221,467 Kenyan Shillings (approx. 4,422 international dollars ), making it 7th among the 47 counties in the country.
