Kisii County (until 2010 Kisii Central District ) is a county in Kenya . The county capital is Kisii . In 2019, the county had 1,266,860 people on 1,317.9 km². 5.9% of households are connected to the electricity grid.

The county is characterized by a hilly landscape and is traversed by both the Gucha and the Mogusi, both of which flow into Lake Victoria . The main crops in Kisii County are coffee , tea , tanacetum , corn , beans, and millet .

In 2007 the original larger Kisii District was divided. The north of the district became the Nyamira District , and the south the Gucha District . The area around the city of Kisii remained as Kisii Central District . Under the constitution of 2010 , the districts of Kisii Central , Kisii South , Gucha , Gucha South and Masaba were united under the new name Kisii County .

Despite the 2001 ban on female genital cutting, there is still a large number of circumcisions in Kisii County.

climate

Kisii is located in the tropical climate zone on the equator , but has a pleasant climate because of its altitude. There are two rainy seasons between March and May and October / November . Temperatures range from 10 ° C to 31 ° C.
