Narok County (until 2010 Narok District ) is a county in Kenya . The county's capital is Narok . In 2019, the county lived 1,157,873 people on 17,921.2 km². The county borders Tanzania to the south . Two thirds of the area of Narok Counties is considered a semi-desert . Narok is 1,000–3,000 m above sea level. In the higher elevations there is rich, volcanic soil. Wheat, barley, maize, beans and potatoes are planted there, and people also raise sheep and raise milk. In the lower elevations mainly cattle breeding takes place. The county's water supply was becoming increasingly difficult, and the average distance to a watering point rose from 5 km to 18 km in 2006. In February 2012, however, the average distance to a water point was between 5 and 12 km. The county's nutritional situation was also poor in 2005, with 23% of the population being insufficiently nourished and dependent on food donations, and 52% of the population living below the poverty line .
The Masai Mara Conservation Area is located in Narok County .
Despite the 2001 ban on female genital cutting, there is still a large number of circumcisions in Narok County.

The county is divided into councils and divisions. There are three constituencies, Kilgoris, Narok North, and Narok South. Under the 2010 constitution , the districts of Narok North, Narok South, and Trans Mara were merged under the new name of Narok County .
