Embu County (until 2010 Embu District ) is a county in Kenya . The capital of the county is Embu . In 2019, the county lived 608,599 people on 2555.9 km². The county is divided into five divisions: Central, Kyeni, Manyatta, Nembure, and Runyenjes. The climate is semi-arid .
Topography and geology
The county is located on Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges , so the soil consists of Nitisol , Andosol , Vertisol , Ferrosol and Cambisol .
economy
About 60% of the population in Embu County makes a living from agriculture, with 56% of the people living below the poverty line. Mainly be corn , mangoes , beans and broad beans , pawpaw , coffee beans , avocado , bananas , cotton , sunflower , Mung- and cowpea grown.
Healthcare
The county has five state hospitals, three health centers, and over 80 privately owned clinics. In 2005 there were around 10,500 patients per doctor. Mainly malaria , respiratory infections, skin diseases and worm infestations are treated. The HIV - prevalence is about 26%. The infant mortality rate in 2005 was 5.6%, 0.6% of the children die before their 5th birthday.
