Kwale County (until 2010 Kwale District ) is a county in Kenya . The county's capital is Kwale . In 2019, Kwale County lived 866,820 people on 8,270.3 km². The county is divided into five divisions: Kinango, Kubo, Matuga, Msamweni, and Samburu. The Kwale County meets the border with Tanzania in the south , the Indian Ocean forms the eastern limit . The largest cities in the county in 2009 were Ukunda (61,000 inhabitants) and Msambweni (55,000 inhabitants). Both cities are tourist centers. In 2001, 40% of the population was below the poverty line.

Kwale County has 250 km of coastline, including the famous Diani Beach . In the west of the county there are two highland plateaus, the Shimba Hills and the Nyaka Plateau on the border with Taita-Taveta County .
The Shimba Hills National Reserve is located in the district .
Healthcare
Kwale County had 48 health care facilities in 2005, including three hospitals. In addition to malaria , intestinal and respiratory infections, HIV and AIDS represent a major problem. In 2005 the prevalence of HIV was 25%.
