Samburu County (until 2010 Samburu District ) is a county in Kenya . It is named after the Samburu people who live there . The county's capital is Maralal . In 2019, 310,327 people lived in the county on 20,182.5 km². The county is one of the driest areas in Kenya, the people mainly live from nomadic livestock farming.

The county stretches from Uaso Nyiro to the south shore of Lake Turkana . The Samburu National Reserve and parts of the Buffalo Springs National Reserve are in the county . Samburu County has 1,400 km of roads, but no roads are paved. Only four of the six divisional capitals have a telephone connection. There are only four post offices in Samburu County.

The county hit the headlines in November 2012 when cattle thieves ambushed 30 police officers and shot dead and injured several. Prior to the incident, there had been repeated battles for cattle, pasture and water.
