history

In 1996, buch.ch AG was the first bookstore in Switzerland to start selling books over the Internet. The company, which at that time belonged to the Schneebeli AG bookstore, developed into the market leader in the Swiss Internet book trade with a turnover of CHF 4 million in 1999, in which it made a profit for the first time and employed 13 people (10.4 full-time positions). In 1999 buch.ch was sold by Scheebeli AG to the company buecher.de, which at the time belonged to Mediantis AG , and the Internet address was changed to mediantis.ch. In 2000 the buch.ch company had 19,000 customers and was converted into buch ch AG. The Internet address was changed back to buch.ch in 2001.

Buch.ch was sold in November 2001 by Mediantis AG for 2.7 million DM to buch.de internetstores AG , based in Münster , Westphalia , of which it has been a subsidiary since then. In 2008 buch.ch AG had 33 employees. The turnover of buch.ch AG was 16.8 million euros.

In 2013 the company was deleted from the commercial register and is now a brand of Orell Füssli Thalia , a company that itself was only created in 2013 from the merger of Orell Füssli's book retailing division with the Swiss division of Thalia, a book retailing chain belonging to the German Douglas Holding .
