Internet bookstore

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Internet bookstores are bookstores whose books can be purchased online . It is a form of mail order business , the customer receives the goods by mail.

The boom in internet bookstores began with the internet hype at the end of the 1990s. Charles M. Stack pioneered the Internet book trade with Book Stacks Unlimited in 1992, followed by Jeff Bezos , who went online with his Amazon.com shop in 1995 . Today Amazon is no longer just a bookseller, but an online department store .

In Germany, following Amazon's example, internet bookstores such as thalia.de , buch.de , buecher.de and bol.de have also sprung up. A process of concentration is also taking place in e- commerce. In Austria, the book retail chain Libro founded the online retailer lion.cc and is trying to conquer the German-speaking book market. This urge to expand ended in one of the largest corporate bankruptcies in Austria. Buch.de Internetstores AG bought the customer base and the trademark rights.

For small booksellers, the Internet offers the opportunity to offer a full range without having to set up a large warehouse. The intermediaries provide the data for this and sometimes deliver the ordered titles directly to the customer.

There are smooth transitions to online trading in other media such as DVDs.
