lion.cc was an Austrian internet bookstore that was originally founded as an online subsidiary of the media trading group LIBRO .

Lion.cc caused a sensation when LIBRO decided in July 2000 to offer books published in Germany - also to customers in Germany - with discounts of up to 20%, thereby undermining the controversial fixed book prices . As a result, several German publishers and wholesalers refused to continue supplying lion.cc, which in turn led to investigations by the European Commission .

Due to financial losses, lion.cc was sold by LIBRO owner André Rettberg in 2001 to the Viennese company MC Marketing. In 2005 the end of the independent online retailer came - the website was taken offline, the 72 employees were dismissed and the company was liquidated.

In February 2005, the German e-commerce company buch.de took over the book platform and reactivated the website. After that, lion.cc was the internet bookseller's third Austrian online platform alongside bol.at and thalia.at. Since the beginning of November 2009, the addresses lion.cc and bol.at have been redirecting to thalia.at.
