The Kiehnle Cookbook , also called Das neue Kiehnle Cookbook or The Great Kiehnle Cookbook, is a Swabian cookbook that has been published in 9 editions since 1921. The author of the first edition was Hermine Kiehnle , after whom the cookbook is named. Monika Graff is responsible for the current revision from 2010 .

Hermione Kiehnle was the director of the cooking school of the Swabian Women's Association in Stuttgart and took first in 1912, the cookbook of the Swabian Women's Association in the self-published in a small edition out. Nine years later, in 1921, the work was published under the title Kiehnle Cookbook by Walter Hädecke Verlag. A large illustrated anniversary edition with color photographs was published as early as 1930. Kiehnle also brought out a baking book with the title Das Kiehnle Backbuch .

In the course of its history, the Kiehnle cookbook has been revised several times and in some cases at great expense. Maria Hädecke, the publisher's wife, cooked almost 2500 recipes in her home kitchen for several years for the 1960s edition. The subsequent editions were also repeatedly scrutinized by the publishing family, authors and test chefs friends.

The first sections of the cookbook introduce the basics of the kitchen, explain ingredients and kitchen utensils and explain the most important quantities used. The recipe part is divided on the one hand according to the criterion menu component, but also according to ingredients. There are separate sections for drinks, baking and canning. At the end of the book you will find basic rules of nutrition, stock keeping, as well as advice on designing menus and table decorations. The current issue also has a seasonal calendar for fruit and vegetables on the inside cover pages.

Awards

The Kiehnle cookbook has received several awards from the Gastronomic Academy in Germany since it was first published . The 1996 edition, it was awarded the silver medal in the Cooking category. It is the third highest award that the Gastronomic Academy in Germany can give to newly published or largely revised books. According to the academy, the award is intended to provide the reader with a guide to help them find suitable specialist literature.
