Kincaid House

Kincaid House is a former manor house in the Scottish town of Milton of Campsie in East Dunbartonshire . Today it houses a hotel. In 1973 Kincaid House was listed in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

The ancestral seat of the Kincaid of that Ilk clan was located here since 1690 . Today's Kincaid House was completed in 1812. As an architect, David Hamilton was responsible for the planning, and 25 years later he also planned Lennox Castle, a few kilometers away, for the descendant John Lennox Kincaid . The existing building and a winter garden were included. Today a hotel is housed in Kincaid House.

The two-story building is made of polished ashlar. The east-facing front is constructed symmetrically. The entrance area is in the middle of a slightly protruding tower with a belvedere . A skylight is installed above the double-leaf entrance door . On the upper floor above there is a triplet window with round arches and decorated bottles . On both sides of the tower, a triplet window with a round arch is installed on the ground floor and a rectangular triplet window on the upper floor. Round towers adorn the building edges. Circumferential battlements create a castle-like character.
