Milton of Campsie is a village in the Scottish council area of East Dunbartonshire . It is located on the northern edge of the Central Belt about 15 km northeast of Glasgow and 24 kilometers west of Falkirk at the foot of the Campsie Fells range of hills . The closest city is Kirkintilloch, three kilometers south . With the mansion Kincaid House from 1812 is a building of the highest Scottish monument category A in Milton of Campsie.

history

Milton of Campsie was built around a mill and developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries with the settlement of printing works. In the 1950s, an infectious disease hospital was established. Clocks were also produced in Milton of Campsie until the 1980s. Today it is mainly used by people commuting to Glasgow. While Milton of Campsie had 1,356 inhabitants in 1951, the number peaked in 1991 with 4,056 people. In 2011, 3889 inhabitants were registered in the village.

The village is connected to the road network by the A891 . This leads from Kilsyth to Strathblane , where it joins the A81 . The M80 is a motorway six kilometers south. In 1848 the village was connected to the railway network. The station was closed in 1951 after 103 years. The tracks have since been removed in favor of a hiking trail.
