Pediatric Pneumology
Pediatric pneumology is a focus of paediatrics listed in the model further training regulations of the German Medical Association .
In order to be allowed to use the designation pediatric pulmonologist, paediatricians have to go through a three-year further training in a center for children with lung disease and pass an examination in addition to the specialist training to become a pediatrician .
Pediatric pulmonologists, also known as pediatric pulmonologists, deal with diseases of the lungs , the diaphragm and respiratory regulation in children and adolescents. The most common diseases treated by pediatric pulmonologists are asthma , cystic fibrosis , chronic cough, ventilation after premature birth, tuberculosis and malformations of the airways.
Essential diagnostic tools in pediatric pulmonology are auscultation (listening) of the lungs, body plethysmography (exact lung function measurement in a special glass cabin), provocation testing, pulse oximetry (measurement of oxygen saturation in the blood) and bronchoscopy (lung specimen).
