Kindergarten house Wiedikon
The Wiedikon kindergarten on Zurlindenstrasse in Zurich - Wiedikon is one of the first pavilion facilities in Switzerland and a typical example of New Building . The kindergarten complex was built between 1928 and 1932 by Hans Hofmann and Adolf Kellermüller . It consists of eight classrooms, three after-school facilities and a gym. It belongs to the Limmattal school district .
history
The kindergarten house was realized at the same time as a residential row of the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zürich on Zurlindenstrasse, which borders the area to the south. The program to support housing cooperatives introduced in Red Zurich in 1924 had led to a boom in the construction of cooperative settlements from 1928 onwards.
The construction of the new building required a lot of light, air and movement. In the kindergarten building there are corresponding elements such as skylights for the generously designed classrooms, completely glazed facade parts or direct exits to the outside. The kindergarten and the living area of the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft form a stylistic and functional unit. They are listed in the inventory of historical monuments.
The lecture hall was converted into a gymnasium in 1953. In 1975 a more extensive renovation with further modifications took place. The former caretaker's apartment has served as a lunch break since 1989.
From 2000 to 2002 a complete restoration was carried out in terms of monument preservation. It was necessary to renovate one of the last surviving witnesses of classical modernism for a further generation in terms of aesthetics, functionality and technology and to bring the building into line with today's standards in terms of heating and building services.
