The General Cooperative Zurich (ABZ) is a Zurich Wohnbaugenossenschaft and the largest in Switzerland. It owns 562 apartment buildings with a total of 5097 apartments spread over 58 settlements in the city and region of Zurich. ABZ was founded in 1916 as one of the oldest building cooperatives in Switzerland. She built her first settlement in 1920 on Birchstrasse in Zurich-Oerlikon , which was followed in stages over the decades. The main target group of the cooperative were families.

In the mid-1990s, their business policy was realigned, which was first implemented with the Regina-Kägi-Hof development in Neu-Oerlikon , in the former industrial area. The housing offer is no longer aimed only at families, but at a variety of household types.
