Kinetic Rain
Kinetic Rain is a two-part kinetic art installation that has been on display in Terminal 1 of Singapore Airport since July 2012 .
The work consists of 1216 copper-colored drops that are attached to thin steel cables and float up and down over the two escalators in the departure hall. Computer-controlled motors move the drops in a 15-minute choreography, in which the drops depict different shapes. The installation extends over an area of 75 square meters, the individual drops cover 7.3 meters from the lowest to the highest point.
Kinetic Rain was developed over a period of two years by artists, designers, programmers and technicians from the Berlin design office ART + COM .
Material selection, type of manufacture and production was taken over by MBFZ toolcraft GmbH.
