Military operations during the King William's War in North America

King William's War (1689–1697), the first of the French and Indian Wars , was the North American scene in the Palatinate War of Succession (1688–1697), which took place mainly in Europe between the armies of France under Louis XIV and an alliance of European powers including England was carried out.

King William's War began when King William III. joined the League of Augsburg against France. France and its Indian allies ( Abenaki ) attacked British border settlements. The British failed to conquer Québec and the French commander attacked the British-occupied coast. The Peace of Rijswijk ended the war in 1697, but the peace did not last long. Shortly thereafter, the colonies were involved in the next of the French and Indian Wars, Queen Anne's War (1702–1713).
