The Kingsford Smith KS-3 Cropmaster was an agricultural aircraft that was converted from the RAAF retired CAC Wackett training aircraft by Kingsford Smith Aviation Service .
History and construction
John Brown OBE bought Kingsford Smith Aviation Service in 1946 (the company was founded by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in 1933) and made several attempts to develop an agricultural aircraft for Australian standards. Since the RAAF decommissioned their Wackett training aircraft, they were available. Kingford Smith seized the opportunity and converted a machine. A chemical container was installed in place of the front seat and this machine was named KS-1 , after further modifications it was renamed KS-2 . However, this construction turned out to be unfavorable because it restricted the pilot's view, so that the machine was rebuilt again. The chemical container has now been installed in place of the rear seat. In addition, the wings and the tail unit were modified. This machine, now called KS-3 , took off for the first time on November 29, 1957. Four more Wacketts were converted to KS-3. The type was further developed and developed from it by Yeoman Aviation , a subsidiary of Kingsford Smith, the Yeoman Cropmaster .
