Chin tear

Chin tear

The chin tear ( chin abrasion ) is a relatively common injury in domestic cats . The main causes are falls from a great height (window lintel), in which the cat catches itself with its paws, but then hits the floor with its chin . Occasionally, chin abrasions can also occur in car accidents. This leads to a detachment of the chin skin and the underlying muscles ( musculus mentalis ) from the lower jaw . A chin tear requires surgical treatment. After a wound toilet, the detached chin is fixed to the canine teeth with loops and adapted with additional staples. Subsequent antibiosis is recommended. The chances of recovery are good, as the chin grows back in practically all cases.
