Curb chain

Curb chain

A chin chain connects the two ends of the bit protruding from the horse's mouth under the horse's chin pit.

In the case of bits with suits, the rein pull is transferred via the suits to the bit and thus to the horse's tongue and load . Chin chains must be sufficiently wide and lie flat on the horse's chin , otherwise they are forbidden as cruelty to animals, as the pulling reins would be enough to break the horse's jaw, depending on the length of the suits and the width of the chain. Rubber or leather covers can make the pressure on the chin pit more even, but not reduce the overall squeezing or pinching effect between the mouthpiece and the chain. Chin straps made of leather or cord have a milder effect, but for this reason they do not allow such precise action and have to be replaced more often due to elongation.
