Rossiya Cinema (Yerevan)
The Rossija cinema ( Armenian Ռոսիա կինոթատրոն ) was a cinema in Yerevan , Armenia . It was planned from 1968 and opened in December 1974. It was designed by the architects Spartak Chatschikian , Hratschik Poghosjan and Artur Tarchanian . It had two halls, one for 1,600 and one for 1,000 spectators. In the two-storey front wing there was another hall with 280 seats, exhibition and dance rooms and a café.
In the 1990s it was given up as a cinema and the ground floor was used as a sales room by various small businesses. In 2004 it was privatized. In the 2010s the building was rebuilt and the southern terrace was demolished and a large mall was built there. The former cinema building is now part of this Rossija shopping center .
Various sculptures and other works of art were installed inside. They were made by the artists Jerwand Kodabaschjan , Henrich Elibekjan , Ogan Petrosjan and Hmayak Bdejan . Most of these works of art have been destroyed since the 1990s.
