"Kinomichi": Calligraphy by the hand of the master Masamichi Noro

Kinomichi ( Kanji : 氣 之 道; dt. " Way of Ki ") is an art of movement that was developed by Masamichi Noro in Paris since 1979 from Aikidō and various European movement teachings.

Until then he had been one of the highest ranking aikido masters. Convinced that the Aikidō of that time could no longer live up to its original intention, he decided to break new ground.

Kinomichi means "path of AI" in Japanese. The term AI has a variety of meanings: breath power - life energy - or vital flow. AI is a materially intangible, yet real property of all living things. Our body is the place where AI manifests and where we can develop it further. Bringing out the AI and letting it penetrate you at the same time is the main goal of practice.

The beginner initially benefits in the form of relaxation and profound physical and mental relaxation. The movements mobilize and refine the perception of all sensory qualities. This allows the practitioner to revise their own body scheme. Gradually it is possible to transform this and find a new unity. Exercising tightens the body. The muscular connections that hold bones and joints together gain new suppleness. This has a positive effect on all structures: neck, shoulders, wrists, the entire spine, hips, knees, ankles right into the zones of the internal organs. In the long term, the entire body tone changes. He finds a new balance: not too slack but not too tense either. All movements in the Kinomichi are based on respect for the body and its natural laws. They have almost no risk of injury. The practice also offers opportunities for dynamic movement, activates circulation, breathing and perspiration, stimulates the flow of AI and the joy of movement in general. Within an exercise group, work with one another is free of prejudice and open, based on mutual respect and without any pressure to perform. Everyone develops according to their own rhythm and their own physical conditions. The essential thing remains the dialogue, tonic and energetic, with a partner. This turns the practice into a kind of joyful meditation in motion.
