The Kinoton GmbH is a German manufacturer of digital projection technology, classic film technology , studio technology and 360 ° LED Display systems. The company is based in Germering near Munich . There are branches in Berlin, Hamburg and Neuss - service bases throughout Germany and Austria. With an international sales and service network, the company looks after customers worldwide. history

Kinoton was founded in Munich in 1948 as a local service company for film theaters . In the following year the company received the distribution rights for the cinema projectors of the Dutch Philips group. In 1963 Kinoton presented the first projector developed in-house. 1968 followed with the ST200, the world's first film plate device for a film showing without rewinding for the first time. Strong growth in the following decades. In the 1980s, the development, manufacture and sale of projectors and equipment for film studios and post-production houses began. In 2000 Kinoton started developing and producing D-Cinema solutions.

In 1988 and 2004 Kinoton received the Scientific and Engineering Award , in 1988 for the development of the first film plate device, in 2004 for the development of the high-speed projectors FP 30 EC II and FP 38 EC II .

Kinoton GmbH has been in liquidation since April 1, 2014. The areas of product sales and advice as well as maintenance and service are taken over by the newly founded company "Kinoton Digital Solutions GmbH".
